The Approach S5 is newest the top of the line golf watch from leading GPS manufacturer Garmin. It comes pre-loaded with map data for more than 38,000 golf courses across the globe and uses course recognition so it knows where you are playing as soon as you arrive.
Unlike many other golf GPS devices, there is nothing you have to download or do in advance, and no subscription fee. As additional courses are added or revised, updates are delivered free for the life of the watch, via computer or smartphone app. It has a crystal clear full-color display and shows a CourseView map with hole-by-hole details including doglegs, sand traps, water hazards, and green shapes. It displays distances to front, middle and back of green, and manual pin positioning lets you drag and drop the pin on screen to its actual day location – the S5 adjusts precise distances accordingly.
You can also drag and drop the onscreen crosshairs to find precise lay up or carry distances to any hazard or part of the hole. The Measure Shot feature will even tell Dad how far his drive went. The touchscreen face is high-resolution and golf glove-friendly, the watch is weatherproof and rated to 50 meters underwater, and it has a 10 hour battery charge life, good for even a 36-hole day.

An odometer tells you how far you walked, and you can track number of putts, fairways hit and greens in regulation, then download your rounds and track improvements. . ($329.99 Plus Limited-time $50 Mail-in Rebate)
Knitted Pom Headcovers
You walk over to the sets of golf clubs over by the starter box and you look at the headcovers to decipher which clubs are yours. Whether you have a big Tiger or customized headcover, you know exactly which set of clubs are yours.
Pom Pom headcovers were all the rage back in the 70's when Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson were dominating the PGA Tour. Back then, the OEM headcovers were not the greatest so a lot of players swapped them out for custom headcovers.
Today, OEM headcovers are a lot more stylish and OEM's put a lot of work into styling their matching headcovers. But there is something just a little too sterile about the new headcovers. Maybe its the man-made synthetic material they use or the styling or just the way they fit. Maybe it's that everyone else with the same driver has the same cover and I like variety. In any case, this is a way dad add a little customization and style to his bag without spending a lot of money. ($23.99 Driver, $21.99 Fairway & Hybrids)
ARCCOS GPS Stat Tracking System
You've probably heard of the fitness trackers that seem to be all the rage right now. Think of the ARCCOS Stat Tracking system as a fitness tracker for your golf game. You currently need an iPhone 4s or above for this system. You simply download the app to you phone, attach the 14 sensors to the end of club then pair your phone with Arccos using bluetooth.
Next, all you need to do is go out and play a round. The app will record all the data you will ever need about your game. Want to know how far the hole is? Arccos will tell you. Want to know how far you just hit your driver, iron, wedge etc? Arccos will show you. Want to know how many greens, or fairways you hit in regulation? or how many putts you made per hole? Arccos will show you.
Basically every shot, every distance, every round, every moment is captured by Arccos and you can use that data in real-time or after your round to see what part of you game needs improvement. If your dad is a techie he will love this gift! ($279.99)
Adidas Adipower Boost Golf Shoes
The new boost technology is a more efficient cushioning design that provides a spring feeling underfoot as you walk.
This increased energy return should in turn help you feel fresher for longer in comparison to using heavier shoes with traditional soles.
To put the spring in your step, adidas takes thousands of TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) energy capsules and fuses them together using a high-pressure steam moulding process.
These capsules then store and release energy more efficiently than the traditional EVA foam adidas used to use, because they don’t harden and soften when temperatures fluctuate, and so retain their consistent spring-like feel. ($174.99)
Bushnell Tour X Golf Rangefinder
Previously, Bushnell released separate rangefinders; one that calculated distance with and one that calculated distance without slope. The new Tour X with its Exchange Technology gives the ability of the laser to be in slope mode or not depending on whether or not the golfer wants/needs to use one or the other. Slope mode calculates the distance when terrain factors in such as hitting uphill or downhill and it works extremely well. Take off one cap from the front and put on the other that comes with the unit to make it completely USGA legal for tournament play.
