Sneak Preview of New 2014 Golf Clubs - Great Golf Deals.com Blog

It's only November but it seems like most of the major golf equipment manufacturers are either launching their 2014 club now or are providing sneak previews of what is coming in early 2014.  I understand the reason for the November launch is to take advantage of the Holiday buying window but for those of us who live in Northern climates, it means hitting the new clubs off mats into a net until the snow melts away.

For those that are looking at possibly replacing some gear in 2014 here is a break down so far, by manufacturer, of their 2014 lineup:

Adams Golf 2014:

Adams XTD Line:
This is a premium line targeted at the better player.  Adams spared no expense in creating this line featuring all the latest technology including titanium brazing in the woods, cut-through technology, forged irons and exact attention to detail to create the hottest clubs on the market. Available Mid-November 2013

Adams XTD Ti Driver:
The XTD driver is the only one to feature Cut-Thru Slot technology – slots cut in the crown and sole that help the face flex more to provide faster ball speeds and longer distance. And to help the club move more aerodynamically through the air during the swing, there are no engravings or sharp edges to slow it down.  Retail $399 & Available to pre-order now.

Adams XTD Fairways and Hybrids:
In the fairway woods and hybrids, Adams engineers combined titanium brazing with Cut-Thru Slot technology and progressive face thickness which helps distribute mass to the perimeter and provide 29 percent more face speed on off-center hits. In addition, the XTD fairway clubs and hybrids have a low Center of Gravity, making it easier to get the ball consistently airborne.  Available to pre-order now.

Adams XTD Irons:
The XTDs Irons are a forged set that
also has Cut-Thru Slot technology. Tungsten weights in the sole optimize the Center of Gravity for longer, straighter shots, while a floating face and hollow design delivers consistently faster ball speeds and adding forgiveness throughout the set. Price starts at $1099 Available to pre-order now.

Adams Golf's New Idea Hybrid Irons are designed to help mid- to high-handicap players by cutting slots around more of the clubhead to help increase face flex, even on mis-hit shots.  They are the easiest to hit irons ever made by Adams. Available Mid-November 2013

Adams New Idea Hybrid Iron Combo Set
The standard set of New Idea clubs starts with 3-, 4- and 5-hybrids that feature Adams' Cut-Thru sole slots that run behind the face and are visible on the crown and sole. The refined design of this slot helps to generates increased fast speeds, higher launches and additional distance, most notably on off-center shots.  Starts at $699 - Available Now

Adams New Idea Complete Sets (Mens, Womens)
These are full 12-piece New Idea sets including Driver, Fairway Wood, Hybrids, Irons, YES Putter and Bag. Retail $999 available now.

Callaway Golf 2014:

Callaway X2 Hot Line:
Callaway's latest revelation is the X2 Hot line of clubs. The line's two complete sets – a Standard and a Pro version – of drivers, fairway woods, hybrids and irons, are all developed to be longer and faster as well as more forgiving for a wide variety of golfers.  Estimated Release Date: Mid-January 2014

Callaway X2 Hot Driver:
The X2 Hot drivers features the new Hyper Speed Face technology, which creates a large sweet spot positioned where golfers are most likely to make contact with the ball. In addition, players can independently adjust the drivers' loft and lie with Callaway's Advanced Optifit Hosel. The Standard version comes with a 460 CC head while the Pro Version features a 440 CC head with deeper face and lower more neutral center of gravity.  The X2 Hot driver hits stores Jan. 17 and will sell for $349

Callaway X2 Hot Fairway Woods:
Includes for the first time, Hyper Speed Face Cup technology, which incorporates a thinner face for added ball speed, particularly on impacts low on the face. This new technology, Callaway says, adds 1.4 mpg of ball speed over the 455 carpenter steel face cup utilized in last year's fairway clubs. Options include a Standard 3-, 4-, 5-, 7-, 9- and 11-wood and a 13.5-, 15-, 17- and 19-degree loft in the Pro model. In addition, Callaway will add to its Deep series with an X2 Hot Pro 2Deep, 3Deep and 5Deep offering. Both fairway woods will be available in stores Jan. 17 and sell for $239

Callaway X2 Hybrids:
The X2 Hot hybrids for the first time include Hyper Speed Face Cup and Internal Standing Wave to help create a sweet spot that is 13 times larger than its predecessor's. A more contemporary head shape, largely based on tour feedback, complements a larger face area, a straighter leading edge and less offset. Both hybrids will be available in stores Jan. 17 and sell for $199.

Callaway X2 Hot Irons:
The Standard X2 Hot Irons have a new Deep Central Undercut that helps the face flex to boost ball speed and distance. A stabilizing arch optimizes the stiffness across the face to enhance sound and feel while moving the sweet spot lower on the face (more in line with most players' impact location). Callaway says these are easily the most accurate long-distance irons the company has ever designed. The Pro model has more compact head and a thinner face and a uniquely designed stabilizing arch that moves the weight low and central to retain the Standard model's high ball speed and distance advantages. They will be available Jan. 17 and cost $799 with True Temper’s Speed Step 85 steel shaft (regular and stiff flexes), $899 with Callaway’s X2 Hot 60-gram graphite shaft in lite, regular and stiff flexes.

Callaway APEX Pro Forged Irons:
Callaway resurrects the APEX name from the Hogan Iron days with a brand new forged iron set that provides the soft, responsive feel for which forged clubs are known, as well as extra distance.  These irons are a high-performance forged cavity back that are designed to appeal to a broad range of golfers seeking the best of forged players' irons and cast game-improvement sticks.  The Apex Pro irons hit shelves on Jan. 17, and will sell for $1099.

Cobra Golf 2014:

Cobra's main equipment line that's more than just pretty colors and fancy design.  The new lineup features  Cobra's new BiO Cell technology to reposition weight away from the clubface to improve the clubs' launch characteristics. Estimated Release Date: Mid-January 2014

Cobra BIO CELL Driver:
The BiO Cell driver features a full-sized 460cc titanium head and MyFly8, an expansion of Cobra's 2013 MyFly technology. It also features New Crown CELL weighting and Forged E9 BiO CELL face technologies that reduce the weight in the crown and face to deliver a lower CG, higher MOI and faster ball speeds. The result? A much larger sweet zone™ delivering longer and straighter drives, even on off-center hits.  And oh yeh, true to Cobra's flair, the BIO CELL driver is available in five eye-popping colors this year: Blue Aster, Black, Barbados Red, Vibrant Orange and Silver.  Retail Price $299.99

Cobra BIO CELL+ Driver:
Cobra BIO CELL+ Driver comes with a smaller 440cc head and multi-material construction – specifically, a crown made of aluminum, copper, magnesium, zinc and zirconium. Together, these metals comprise what Cobra calls ''venollum,'' which makes the crown even lighter than on the standard BiO Cell driver and gives the BiO Cell+ an even lower center of gravity. That, Cobra says, helps golfers get the ball airborne higher but with lower spin – a key requirement for better players.  Retail Price $399.99

Cobra BIO CELL Fairway Woods and Hybrids:
Also feature MyFly8 adjustability technology, along with E9 Face Technology to improve distance and stability. Their stainless steel heads have a high-strength steel insert, which enables more face flex for faster ball speeds, longer distances and higher trajectory, and come in the same colors as the drivers.

Cobra BIO CELL Irons:
Feature heavy tungsten in the heel and toe of the long and mid-irons for added forgiveness, while the short irons have tungsten centered behind the hitting area for extra distance and control. They also include a perimeter undercut, which gives them the largest unsupported face of any Cobra Iron and helps the face flex more at impact for an increase in ball speed and distance.  And of course the BiO CELL Irons are offered in four colors providing personalization and choice with tungsten-fueled performance.  These irons retail for $699.99 with 8 piece set - steel shafts.

A game-improvement line-up targeted at golfers with higher handicaps that are looking for clubs that will help the game easier and more enjoyable.  True to the Baffler clubs of the past which is 40 years old, the new Baffler XL line includes some of the most forgiving and easiest-to-hit clubs that Cobra has ever produced. Available Mid-November 2013

Cobra Baffler XL Driver:
Has a 5,000-square millimeter face (17 percent larger than the AMP Cell Offset driver) in addition to a 21 percent increase in effective face area. More of the face is located above the Center of Gravity to help optimize spin and provide a more distance and a more consistent launch.  The offset design promotes draw-biased shots while combating the dreaded slice, giving you maximum distance off the tee. COBRA’S R&D team expanded the face, the largest ever featuring E9 Face Technology, while lowering the CG to deliver easy distance, even on the worst of shots.  Retails for $249 available now.

Cobra Baffler XL Fairways and Hybrids:

The shallow face design inspires confidence at address and promotes higher, longer ball fight with less spin. Nike Golf 2014

Nike VR_S Covert 2.0 Line
As of today there has not been any official Nike announcement about this 2014 line but there has been some rumours and equipment spotted on the PGA Tour.  We assume the line will include Drivers, Fairway, Hybridsa and Irons which is similar to last year's line up. Estimated Release Date: Mid-January 2014

Nike VR_S Covert 2.0 Driver
Nothing official here but the new 2.0 was spotted at the Frys.com Open earlier this Fall.  The new 2.0 seems to feature a larger cavity back painted black to give it a more stealth look on the sole of the club.  It appears to have the same Flex Loft adjustablility but the face looks a little deeper and more traditionally pear shaped.

Nike VR_S Covert 2.0 Tour Driver
Much like this year's Tour Driver, the 2.0 looks like it will feature a smaller 440 CC club head wih a deeper face for golfers with a little more ability.

Nike VR_S Covert Forged Irons
Just rumour on this right now but there appears to be some talk about a game-improvement set of Covert irons that are forged to compete with the new Callaway APEX and Mizuno JPX EX Forged.

Nike VR_S Pro Combo Set
This has always been one of Nike's most popular irons because it combines the best of all irons into one beautiful forged set.  The new Pro Combo set feature a pocket-cavity design in the long irons for increased ball speed and higher launch loft.  The scoring irons have a one-piece split cavity back design for control.

TaylorMade Golf 2014:

The new SLDR Line is the replacement to the popular R1 from 2013.  But in addition to a SLDR Driver there is also a SLDR Fairway and Hybrid line.  Drivers are available to order now and Fairways and Hybrids available end of November.

Released in early Fall this year, the new SLDR was a departrure from the R1 driver it replaced.  First and most obvious was the traditional dark club head color which is a nice departure from the ubiquitous TaylorMade white.  But by no means was this just a cosmetically different driver.  The new SLDR technology uses a sliding weight feature that allows up to 21 different weight position. Retails For $399

Unlike the driver, the SLDR Fairways and Hybrids do not have the sliding weight technology but it does feature the new speed pocket technology and low and forward center of gravity location that delivers a high launch and low-spin for optimal distance.

TaylorMade Jet Speed Line:
The new JetSpeed line of woods (driver, fairway woods, hybrids) from TaylorMade will replace the existing RBZ Stage 2 woods in December. With a shallower head and low, forward center of gravity (CG) -- similar to the CG characteristics of SLDR -- the combination gives JetSpeed a sweet spot that's 25 percent larger and extends lower on the face than RBZ Stage 2. It also helps increase ball speeds and reduce spin on shots hit low on the face.  Estimated Release Date: Mid-December 2013

TaylorMade's first driver to incorporate Speed Slot technology in the sole. An adjustable hosel  can change loft +- 1.5 degrees.  Retails for $299, TP Version $399

The JetSpeed fairway woods and hybrids also feature the new Speed Pocket, a slightly shallower face for playability and a lower, forward CG. Similar to the driver, the fairway woods and hybrids are designed to launch the ball higher with less spin for increased distance. The fairway woods and hybrids also come with a non-adjustable hosel.

The SpeedBlades contain the second generation Speed Pockets into their clubheads, as found in such clubs as the RocketBladez irons and RocketBallz woods. The Speed Pocket is a deep slot that runs from heel to toe on the sole just behind the clubface that allows the face to flex and rebound faster. TaylorMade lowered the SpeedBlade's center of gravity to further increase the launch angle and to put more power behind shots hit low on the clubface – which the company says happens almost three-quarters of the time. Starts at $799 for steel shafts.

TaylorMade Tour Preferred (TP)  Irons 2014:
As of  today, information about this new premium line, forged irons targeted and better players is just beginning to hit the market. 2010 was the last time TaylorMade came out with a Tour Preferred line of better players irons.  That year they came out with a Muscle Back (MB), Cavity Back (CB) and a Muscle Cavity (MC) models.  This year appears to be the same but rumour has it that the long and mid irons will include the new Speed Pocket technology in an effort to add more ball speed and forgiveness to those clubs.  Stay tuned for more information as these are sure to very among better players.

Titleist Golf 2014

Titleist's only offering in the game-improvement iron category.  They have the benefits of a very forgiving, game improvement set without looking like a big clunky unattractive club. High density tungsten is carefully placed low in the toe area of the mid and long irons creating a high MOI that drives higher ball speeds even off the miss hits. Retail: $799

A muscle-back forged blade  that offers maximum shot control with improved address profiles and enhanced feel through the turf for the highly skilled golfer. Compact shapes with precise CG locations and traditional tour lofts deliver the proven flight, feel and shot-making confidence that have made MB irons the choice of many of the world’s best players. Retail: $999
